Shadow’s Heart Teasers

Well, it’s that time again. The Shadow’s Heart is only a month or two away from release, and as an early Christmas present for everybody, here are the customary teasers. Hopefully they’ll pique some interest!

  • Five major characters will die
  • Three children will be conceived, and two will be born
  • We will find out more about the assassin who tried to kill Arenadd in Shadow’s Heir
  • Skandar will return. And, after all these years, he and Senneck will finally meet face-to-face
  • We will find out what’s been happening in the South all this time
  • Prince Akhane will return
  • The last surviving member of the now-disgraced Redguard family will play a role
  • More will be revealed about the Night God
  • This book contains some of the most gruesome scenes in the entire series so far – in fact, at one point the copyeditor actually inserted a comment which simply said “urrghâ€
  • Finally, as I’ve mentioned in the past, The Shadow’s Heart has a truly tragic ending. If I’ve done my job properly, a few people may shed a tear or two

The book is due to be released in Australia in January 2014 – New Year’s Day – and as always I’ll be announcing the launch party here on the site.

~KJT, who has just been asked to launch someone else’s novel!

The Shadowed Throne – US style!

I’ve been getting an awful lot of parcels lately – is it Christmas or something?

In any case, my last parcel contained the advance copies of The Shadowed Throne – American edition. They look great – I really like the colour scheme. If you want to see it for yourself, it’s already up on the Books page. Or, if you’re in America or Canada, you can wait for January 2014 and go find it in a bookshop!

In the meantime, I’d say we’re about due for the customary teasers for Shadow’s Heart. Stay tuned – they’ll be up here shortly.

The Shadow’s Heart

This week I received my author copies of The Shadow’s Heart – the final installment in the Risen Sun trilogy. It’s so cool to see all three volumes together the way they were meant to be, and the cover is a nice one, too.

Here is a still life I took of the trilogy on my kitchen bench.

Novels: They're What's For Dinner. Along with goat casserole.

Novels: They’re What’s For Dinner. Along with goat casserole.

As I’ve said before, The Shadow’s Heart is my favourite book so far. I do seem to like the endings of my trilogies. It’s due to be released early next year – I’ll announce it here when it officially hits the shelves!

~KJT, about to eat a rather tasty goat casserole for dinner.

A New Short Story

Well, it’s been a while since I promised it, but I’ve finally done it: a new short prequel story has just gone up on the Short Stories page.

This particular story is set a very long way back, and tells the tale of one of the first griffins ever to choose a human, as well as revealing a few other things. I hope you enjoy it!

~KJT, about to head off to town to watch Blackfish and feel ashamed for having visited Seaworld like everybody else

The Dark Griffin – Revisited

Today, in a ludicrous nine and a half hour marathon session, I typed up my Dark Griffin screenplay adaptation. I had already written the whole thing out by hand, so all I really needed to do was transcribe it, but I made some changes along the way. One of the good things about writing things out by hand first is that you get to edit them while you type them up. Unfortunately, I don’t usually have the patience to do it that way.

Something I particularly enjoyed about this project was that I got to retell the story of The Dark Griffin, and had the opportunity to update it in the process. It’s been about five years since I wrote the original novel, so naturally since then I’ve thought of plenty of things I wish I’d done differently – mistakes people have pointed out, and other things I’ve been dissatisfied with. It was annoying because I thought there was no way to fix any of it – but now that opportunity has finally come.

Anyway, I’m about to send off my finished screenplay, and we’ll see if anything comes of it. At least I enjoyed writing it. Now I just have to think of something to write next.

~KJT, suffering from an aching back but amazed that RSI has not set in after all
