Progress Report

I am now 77 pages into The Darkest Hour, the fifteenth and final book of the series. This is easily one of the biggest books I’ve written – not in terms of length (at this point I don’t know how long it’ll be), but in terms of storytelling scale. There are about five different simultaneous storylines, with many different viewpoints spread out over multiple countries, but in spite of the distances involved every storyline is related to the others. How? Well, you’ll find out one day. I think it’s time for a little honesty, though: I make a show of doing this for you, the readers, but at bottom I’m largely doing it for myself, and one of the things I enjoy most about it is the sense of revelation I get as the book advances and I see how things are going to work out. The fact that other people enjoy the eventual results is a bonus.

For now, The Shadow’s Heart should soon be hitting shelves in Australia and New Zealand, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Launch Date

I forgot to mention it before, but January 1st is also the official release date for the US edition of Shadowed Throne! The book should now be available in all good bookshops in the US and Canada. I hope you like it!

These covers just keep getting better if you ask me.

I can’t wait to see the next cover!

Happy New Year!

Well, that’s 2013 done and finished. Now for 2014, with more books, more scripts, and more crazy escapades!

I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions but I do believe in making resolutions in general. The most recent one I made was to try more recipes, partly because of all the cookbooks I got given for Christmas.

There have also been a couple of recent developments on the writing front, which I’ve been saving to reveal now: first, after a long delay, I’ve gone back to work on the final book of the series! I’m making good progress on it, and intend to keep working steadily until it’s finally finished.

And second, after all these years, the very first Dark Griffin fanfic has appeared! It’s a proud moment for yours truly.

Now, if you’ll please excuse me, I have a headache.

Ink, Inc.

Well, I had a good Christmas, and I hope you all did too. Now it’s New Year’s eve, so more partying is in store! I shall be back here later to post a New Year’s message, which may contain spelling errors depending on how much champagne I’ve had.

For now I have an exciting announcement: my friend Jack Heath has asked me to launch his next book! It’s titled Ink, Inc., and will be launched on the 23rd of January at the Co-Op bookshop, University of Canberra campus.

If you’d like to be there to eat all the free food hear the speeches, you can RSVP through Jack’s website, or through the Facebook event page.

~KJT, looking forward to another day of writing

The Obligatory Christmas Message

Well, I know it’s not Christmas Day yet, but as I’ll be going away for the customary family holiday soon, I’m putting up my official Christmas message now.

2013 has been a year of change for me. I’ve now been in my new job for over a year, and a few weeks ago I had my first ever job review. I was insanely nervous, but ultimately my supervisor told me, bluntly, that I’d revolutionised the way the school’s archives are run and viewed by the rest of the school, and that our departing Principal likes me so much that he wanted to take me to his new school in Sydney with him. All in all, I walked out of there feeling pretty pleased with myself.

2013 is also the year I branched out from novels and wrote my first scripts. I expect to hear back about them in January – the same month in which I will be turning 28. If anything comes of my efforts, then this year will be an important one to look back on for that reason as well.

And finally, in 2013 I moved into my own home, which I’m immensely proud of and clean diligently every week. I promised myself I’d be in my own place before I turned 30, and I made it. So, with all that, I’d say this has been a very good year for me.

I hope 2013 has been good to all of you as well, whoever and wherever you are. And I hope 2014 is even better. And I hope you get something cool for Christmas! Or Hanukkah, if you’re Jewish. Jews should get cool stuff too.

If I look extra happy in this picture, it's because it was taken immediately after the aforementioned job review.

Did You Know?

The word “privacy” is most likely derived from “privy” – an old word for “toilet”.
